* MovieShaker Ver. 2.0 Overview

What you can do with MovieShaker?

Movie making:
    You can arrange movie files, image files, and music files to make a
    final movie product with ease.

Shake!
    A single click on the button will automatically make a scene of 
    approximately 30 seconds with materials in the material tray used at
    random. A scene may have a special effect that is not provided in 
    the effect tray.

    This tool is useful to produce playful and effective scenes with 
    materials with ease.

Wide range of effects are available to apply to a material.
    You can apply effects available with the MovieShaker to a material 
    (a movie file, etc.) to make it much more enjoyable to view.

Effect between scenes (processed materials) for a dynamic transition
    You can add an effect, such as the cross-fade or wipe effect, between 
    scenes to provide a more dynamic transition from one scene to another.


Capturing Materials and Recording Work
    You can capture the materials from DV device connected with i.LINK
    cable to edit and record or output the created work to DV device.
 
Direct Upload to ImageStation
    You can upload the created work to Sony ImageStation service.

* Precautions

[Display resolution/color]
To use MovieShaker, make sure to use the following display settings:
   Screen area: 800 x 480 pixels or more
   Color: High Color (16 bits) or superior

[Display Resolution Change]
When you change display resolution, please exit from the application and
launch it again.  

[Desktop Theme]
Do not change the Windows desktop theme when starting the MovieShaker.

[UI Design Selector]
Do not change the "UI Design Selector" settings when starting the 
MovieShaker.

[QuickTime]
This Application requires QuickTime 4.1.2 or later. Also, please do not 
delete QuickTime from your computer.

[DV editing]
This application requires 128MB memory on your system to 
capture/edit/output DV-AVI files. 64MB may force you to terminate the 
program while you are using.

[Exit all the other application]
Please exit all the applications when you use this application.
Doing so will enable you to use this application more effectively.
Especially, when you capture or record using DV, please use them after 
exiting other applications,resident services etc.

[System suspension while MovieShaker is running]
This application can not support the system suspension functionality.
Please make sure to prevent from system suspension while each application
is running.


[Layer of Effects]
You can apply many effects to one clip. In this case, layer of effects can
be made in this order.
  1. [Bubbles] - [Ripples]  on Effect Tray
  2. Transition
  3. [Fire] on Effect Tray
  4. [Edge] - [LensFlare] on Effect Tray
  5. Color tone
  6. Text effect

[Export to File]
Exporting a final movie product into a file may take a long time to 
complete. Check for the remaining battery before exporting. Use AC power 
supply wherever possible. Using the "Save movie as DV (Digital Video)" 
option takes an especially long time to complete exporting a final movie 
product. To reduce the required time, select the "Quick-Save" option to 
save a final movie product.
No such files that exceeds 4GB in size should be exported.

[Jog Dial Window]
We recommend to hide Jog Dial Window if you use this application on 
1024x480screen size.

[Compensation for memory contents]
If edit and record failed because of software or device problem, 
we can not compensate for memory contents.

[Copyright]
Unauthorized use of the captured or recorded image(s) except personal 
usage is prohibited.

*Precautions in case DV device is connected or editing DV

This program can only control household DV devices manufactured by Sony 
(limited to models sold in the country where the computer was purchased).

MovieShaker has been confirmed to work with household DV device models 
equipped with an i.LINK connector (including media converters and 
Digital 8) sold before the end of December 2000. (As of January 10, 2001)

[In case you use Sony Digital Video Camera Recorder DCR-VX1000]
If your computer is a Windows Me machine, this software cannot be used in combination with DCR-VX1000.

[In case you first connect the DV device]
If the Windows Me is installed on your computer and you first connect the 
DV device to a computer, please connect the DV device to a computer before 
you start this program.
You can start this program after the DV device has been recognized. 
Please open the My Computer and check that the DV device icon is displayed 
to know that the DV device has been recognized.

[Recommended settings and restriction of this program]
MovieShaker application needs hardware resource like CPU and hard disk.
Please make sure you read the recommended settings and restriction included 
in the online Help.

[In case you use the SONY digital video cassette recorder]
If the Windows Me is installed on your computer and you first connect to 
the digital video, [Add new hardware Wizard] dialog appears and [AV/C 
Tuner] is detected. In this case, please select [Automatic search for a 
better driver (Recommend)] and click [Next].
[Windows was unable to locate the software for this device] appears, 
however, there is no problem to use this program.

[In case you record the work to DV]
It may take a long time to output to DV device (creating the file for 
output).
Please make sure to supply AC power to the connected DV device before use.

[Captured File]
The captured file in this program is saved as a .dv file (QuickTime DV 
format).
This file can be played in QuickTime Player. However, it can not be used in 
Sony DVgate program.
When you use the DV file captured by MovieShaker in DVgate program, please
follow the procedure given below and change the movie from DV format into 
AVI format.

Procedure
1. Open the folder in which MovieShaker is installed.
(Default C:\Program files\Sony\MovieShaker)
2. Run MovieConverterDV.exe
3. Click the upper [Browse..] button and select the DV source file for
   conversion.
4. Click the lower [Browse..] button and specify the name of the AVI file
   to be created.
5. Click [Convert] button. MovieConverter will convert the DV file to
   an AVI file.
6. Import this newly created AVI file into DVgate.

[Media Converter and Digital 8]
When Media Converter is connected or the tape recorded (analog) with 
Digital 8 is played, time code on the capture window is not correctly 
displayed.

[DV images with aspect ratio of 16:9]
DV images with aspect ratio of 16:9 are not supported.

[Recording date]
When editing, this program does not maintain the recording data(date,time) 
which the device recorded in the tape.

[Shaking DV format file]
The shake needs more memory than the usual edit.
Especially when the shake of DV format file (captured file or DV-AVIj
reaches the limitation
of the software (depending on memory capacity), the program may be forced 
to terminate.
Please restrict the shakes of DV on the storyboard to one or two. (If Main 
memory is 128MBj

* Restriction and Precaution while editing MPEG movie file

[Editing MPEG file with sound]
When editing MPEG material with sound, the following problems occur.
- BGM can not be added.
- Even if speed adjustment is carried out, it is not reflected in sound.
When you use the above effect, please convert your MPEG movie into AVI 
format according to the following procedure.

  1. Open the folder in which MovieShaker is installed.
     (The default is C:\Program files\Sony\MovieShaker)
  2. Run MovieConverter.exe
  3. Click the upper [Browse..] button and select the MPEG source file for
   conversion.
  4. Click the lower [Browse..] button and specify the name of the AVI file
   to be created.
  5. Click [Convert] button. MovieConverter will convert the MPEG file to
   an AVI file.
  6. Import this newly created AVI file into MovieShaker.

[Memory capacity when editing MPEG file]
Large amount of memory (as in case of DV) is necessary while using MPEG 
material.
Expansion to 128MB or more is recommended. Also, please set the virtual 
memory to more than 1024.

[Shaking MPEG file]
The shake needs more memory than the usual edit.
Especially when the shake of MPEG material reaches the limitation of the 
software (depending on memory capacity), the program may be forced to 
terminate.
Please restrict the shakes of MPEG material on the storyboard to one or 
two.(If Main memory is 128MB)

[Exporting MPEG movies with Text Effect]
When "Fade All" or "In and Out" text effects are applied to MPEG movie
files, the exported result is incorrect.
Before applying these effects, please convert your MPEG movie into AVI 
format with the help of MovieConverter.

Procedure
1. Open the folder in which MovieShaker is installed.
   (C:\Program files\Sony\MovieShaker)
2. Run MovieConverter.exe
3. Click the upper [Browse..] button and select the MPEG source file for
   conversion.
4. Click the lower [Browse..] button and specify the name of the AVI file
   to be created.
5. Click [Convert] button. MovieConverter will convert the MPEG file to
   an AVI file.
6. Import this newly created AVI file into MovieShaker.

* Limitations

[Output to ImageStation]
During output to ImageStation, the password can not be saved in case of the
restricted user.
Please save the password once by authorization as a power user.
After that, the restricted user can save the password.

When you check "In the future do not show this screen." on "ImageStation 
Login" window, you can't release this condition on MovieShaker.
For releasing this setting, please use Movie Player or Still Viewer in 
Smart Capture software.

[Text Font]
This application can not use this font effect.
  - Strikeout

[Quick-Save]
You can not apply effects and transitions to Quick-Saved Movies.
If you want to edit movies which is exported by MovieShaker, Please import
movies which are exported as "Save as a standard Movie".

[Aspect Ratio]
MovieShaker displays images with the aspect ratio of 4:3. Any image with 
the aspect ratio of other than 4:3 will be displayed partially.
DV images with the aspect ratio of 16:9 are not supported.

[Small movies]
You cannot apply both "Effect" and "Text Effect" to movies whose pixel
size is 160x112.
Before applying both effects, please change the movie size with the help
of MovieConverter.

Procedure
1. Open the folder in which MovieShaker is installed.
   (C:\Program files\Sony\MovieShaker)
2. Run MovieConverter.exe
3. Click the upper [Browse..] button and select the MPEG source file
   for conversion.
4. Click the lower [Browse..] button and specify the name of the AVI file
   to be created.
5. Click [Convert] button. MovieConverter will create a new AVI file
   whose pixel size is 160x120.
6. Import this newly created AVI file into MovieShaker.

[Still Images]
You can use still Images whose pixels size is 2048x1360 or smaller.
And 16bit Color BMP is not supported.

[File Name]
This application can not handle these files.
  - Files whose name length is 64 characters or more.
  - Files whose folder name length is 64 characters or more.
  - Files whose absolute path length is 255 characters or more. 

[Unsupported QuickTime Movie]
This application doesn't support these formats.
  EQuickTimeVR
  EQuickTime3D
  EVECTOR

[Unsupported AVI files]
This application doesn't support these formats.
  EMPEG 2/4
  EIndeo Video 5

[Drop Frames]
When you play movies, the application drops frames. But exporting to the 
file works correctly.
This application drops frames under these cases.
  - Playing movies which are applied with too many effects.
  - Playing movies whose datasize are too large.
  - Playing shaken movies.

[Direct Draw Acceleration]
If you use "Direct Draw Acceleration" in QuickTime, This application may
fail to play the movies.
In this case, you use this application without "Direct Draw Acceleration".

To use this application without Direct Draw Acceleration.
  1. Click [Start] - [Settings] - [Control Panel]
  2. Double-click QuickTime Icon
  3. Click drop down list and select [Video settings]
  4. Remove a checkmark by clicking [Enable Direct Draw Acceleration]

[Fire Effect]
Your system may crash if you play the movies which are applied with fire
effect and exported using Quick-Save.
We recommend not to use Quick-Save when you use the fire effect.

[True Color(24 bit)]
If the color mode is "True Color (24 bit)", you may encounter the following
problems.
  - Your system may crash when you play still images.
  - Your system may crash when you play movies which are produced by
    the following methods.
      1. Import some still images whose size is 160x120.
      2. Put two still images on Storyboard.
      3. Export to file by using Quick-Save.
Please use this application on High Color(16 bit) or True Color(32 bit) for
better usage of this application.

[Display settings]
In a display board, the movie may not be correctly displayed depending on 
the display-related settings.
In this case, please follow the settings given below.
- Reduce the number of colorsie.g. 24bit Color -> 16bit Colorj
- Reduce refresh rate.
- Remove DirectDraw acceleration of QuickTime written in above.

[Saving movie in floppy disk]
When data is saved in floppy disk,depending on the created format, a 
capacity more than twice the file size
may be necessary.In this case, please create on the hard disk first and 
copy it later.

[Applying text to a small movie]
When you apply Text Effect to a movie whose pixel size is 160x120 or
smaller, the displayed text is not smooth.
